Youth and Audience Development

Apprenticeship Programme

A cornerstone of CTCB’s commitment to nurturing South African talent, the Apprenticeship Programme provides emerging dancers with invaluable professional experience. Apprentices train, rehearse, and perform alongside the company’s leading artists — gaining mentorship, stage experience, and the foundation to build sustainable, successful careers in dance.

Youth Development Project

Running from May to September 2026, this five-month outreach initiative provides training, mentorship, and performance opportunities for talented young dancers from diverse communities. The programme culminates in a fully staged youth production of Coppélia at the Joseph Stone Auditorium — a joyful celebration of growth, creativity, and opportunity.

Ballet Express

Ballet Express brings the magic of professional ballet directly to young audiences from underserved communities. Participants enjoy the full theatre experience, including:

  • A ticket to a Final Dress Rehearsal (FDR)
  • Safe, reliable transport to and from the venue

By making ballet accessible beyond traditional audiences, Ballet Express nurtures appreciation for the arts, inspires creativity, and fosters a lifelong connection to culture and performance.

Budding Ballerinas & Aspiring Danseur

Budding Ballerina & Aspiring Danseur offers children aged 5 to 12 a magical introduction to the world of dance. Participants experience a morning of movement, music, and creative expression, guided by professional CTCB dancers. Through playful exercises and basic ballet techniques, children develop coordination, confidence, and a love for storytelling through movement. This immersive event inspires young dancers, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts and providing a joyful, memorable encounter with professional ballet.

The Community Outreach Initiative in partnership with the City of Cape Town

The Community Ballet Outreach Initiative aims to make ballet accessible to a broad public through inclusive, hands-on dance experiences. By partnering with The City of Cape Town, CTCB seeks to engage young people from diverse communities across Cape Town, introducing them to the art of ballet in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
