Enemy Behind the Gates
Christopher L. Huggins is back in South Africa to restage his award-winning ballet Enemy Behind the Gates (2001). This spectacular athletic fusion of contemporary ballet and modern movement is clean and fast-moving, an exciting, confrontational work created in a militaristic and percussive style – a fitting finale to this triple bill of exciting and diverse works.
Transfigured Night
In rehearsal: Dancers work on Frank Staff’s Transfigured Night (1957). Set to a sweeping score by Schoenberg, it honours our South African heritage. Based on a true story of siblings dominated by an older sister, it’s a dramatic love story with intimate duets, a hallmark of Staff’s choreography.
Select performances accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
Saturday 22 June at 19h30 (Opening), Sunday 23 June at 15h00, Saturday 29 June at 19h30, Friday 5 July at 19h30, Saturday 6 July at 19h30, and Sunday 7 July at 15h00.
