For the first time in almost 30 years, South Africa’s two leading classical ballet companies will join forces to present one of the great ballet classics on a national tour. Cape Town City Ballet and Joburg Ballet will perform the legendary classic Swan Lake in Johannesburg and Cape Town this July, bringing together the dancers of both companies to present the world’s most famous ballet on a grand scale seldom seen in SA.

Set to the unforgettable music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and first performed in 1877, it tells the story of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette, a beautiful maiden cursed to live as a swan by day.
As Siegfried vows to break the spell, their romance is tested by the dark sorcerer Rothbart and his cunning daughter Odile, leading to a dramatic and poignant finale. With its hauntingly beautiful score and breathtaking choreography, Swan Lake has enchanted audiences for over a century, capturing the delicate balance between dream and reality, light and darkness, love and loss.
